LEGO shapes and infinite possibilities are a window for the imagination! Did you know that it can also be a great tool for children skills development?
Playing with LEGO and DUPLO bricks enable kids to develop fine-motor skills, problem-solving and emotional skills in a fun environment since sometimes their short attention spans get in the way of the learning process. In our experience, we observed some of the life lessons children develop in our classes and play space.
Independent Exploration
Building and playing with LEGO bricks give children the autonomy to explore and learn concepts like size, area, length and patterns by themselves. It’s the kind of activity that helps kids develop logical skills and express things that are still too abstract for them to put into words.

LEGO building stimulates curiosity and creative thinking as builds evolve into bigger challenges. How to make a tall tower without breaking? Or building a strong structure with a limited number of bricks? Children will invest time and look for different approaches to reach their goals, learning in the process how to apply those skills in other aspects of their daily life.
Social and Emotional Skills
In a shared play space, kids collaborate, learn how to negotiate and create with others. From sharing bricks to deciding what to build to agreeing on designs; the playtime teaches compromise, respect for others, helpfulness and that together they - and their creations - are stronger!
Lateral Thinking and Planning Skills
When following instructions to assemble a set, kids have the chance to improve their problem solving, focus and attention to detail. Symmetry and balance are explored during the activity as one wrong piece or flaw in the process can compromise the final result. Planning ahead and sorting all pieces before starting to build is something they improve with practice.
At Imagination Station we play and have fun, that’s why our classes are a time of exploration and carefully controlled chaos, where students can learn while playing and putting those skills to practice in a creativity-driven environment.
